
Exhibition invitation for Civitates Orbis Terrarum at the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville

John Bailly’s work explores the random nature of information and the manner in which we process it. Utilizing juxtapositions of diverse data and multiple historical references, Bailly’s work intends for us to reflect on the manner in which we conceptualize our realities. Born in Slough , Buckinghamshire in 1968, of a French father and American mother, he was raised in Paris, Aix-les-Bains, Long Island , Lyon, and Miami. He received his MFA in painting and printmaking from Yale University in 1993, and is Fellow of The Honors College at Florida International University. Based in Miami, his work has been exhibited at the Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art. John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Dunedin Fine Arts Center , von Liebig Art Center , and Art and Culture Center of Hollywood. He was recently awarded the 2006 South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship for Visual and Media Artists and a 2006 State of Florida Individual Artist Grant. His current and upcoming exhibitions are at the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville and at Texas State University. |
