John Bailly, M.F.A., is an artist.  His work explores the random nature of information and the manner in which we process it. Utilizing juxtapositions of diverse data and multiple historical references, Bailly’s work intends for us to reflect on the manner in which we conceptualize our realities.  Born in Slough, Buckinghamshire in 1968, of a French father and American mother, he was raised in London, Paris, and Miami. He received his M.F.A. from Yale University in 1993, and is a Fellow of the Honors College. His work has been exhibited at University of Maine Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville, Texas State University, and several other institutions in the US. He was awarded the 2006 South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship for Visual and Media Artists and a 2006 State of Florida Individual Artist Grant. In 2007, Bailly and critically acclaimed poet Richard Blanco produced a collaborative project, Place of Mind.  He founded and directs Aesthetics & Values at FIU. He lectures and teaches workshops at universities throughout the US.

Alumni Advisors to A&V 2010

Miryam Rodriguez is currently a senior at Florida International University, pursuing two Bachelor's degrees, in English and in Art History. She is a member of the Honors College and an alumni of A&V 2009. During the 2008 Fall semester, she interned at the Frost Art Museum. She worked with the curator of collections and with the registrars, learned how to manage artwork, and witnessed the daily functions of museum work. Her internship and A&V experiences have served as a solid foundation for her SRAI program collaboration with John Bailly. At the SRAI conference, she will present the A&V student handbook, which will be the end result of the research partnership of John Bailly, Jairo Pava, and herself. She, along with fellow 2009 A&V alumuni, will be presenting work at the NCHC 2009 conference in Washington D.C.

Jairo Pava is a software developer. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science at Florida International University. As an alumni of the 2009 Aesthetics and Values class, Jairo is able to use his technical expertise to build an online community of A&V students, alumni, and faculty. His work has taken the A&V exhibition beyond FIU's main campus to gather a more culturally (and intellectually) diverse response to better understand art's place in an increasingly dynamic world. He will be presenting his work, along with other A&V 2009 alumni, at the 2009 NCHC conference in Washington D.C.
